Painting in Provence
Pattee Hipschen Instructor
May 25-June 2, 2023
8 days

Why did so many famous painters gravitate towards the South of France?  Come with us to witness the light and colors of Provence.  Van Gogh, Cezanne and so many others discovered the magic here and now we invite you to join us for a small group experience, “Painting in Provence” with instructor Pattee Hipschen.

Lodging is in a private 6 bedroom centuries-old renovated home for your entire stay, so unpack, relax and make this your home away from home for the next 8 days.

We will be in the Luberon, between the villages of Lacoste and Bonnieux (you may know from the "Year in Provence" series). The days are warm and sunny and the evenings, cool and crisp.  Last year the poppies were abundant and the views right from this property amazing!

One day we will visit elegant Aix-en-Provence, where Cezanne lived and worked.  We visit his studio and paint from one of his favorite sights with a great view of  Mont Saint-Victoire.   There will be time here to enjoy this beautiful city of fountains and double tree-lined boulevards and visit the Musee Granet with works by Cezanne and many others.

The markets of Provence are a feast for the senses.  From the bright colors of the local produce, live music and the scents of open-air street food, enjoy 2 markets during your week in Provence!

Paint the nearby Roman Bridge at sunset, and get to know the nearby village of Lacoste, former home of the Marquis de Sade and now the campus of Savanna College of Art and Design and the home of Pierre Cardin.

Pattee currently teaches landscape painting at the Art League School in Alexandria, VA (Torpedo Factory) and at the Arts Club of Washington in Washington, D.C.  She is a member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters and will help you to advance in your painting journey, or introduce you to the joy of “Plein air” painting in this beautiful setting.  This is a great season to paint outdoors from life,  before the intense heat of the summer arrives, yet the beauty of Provence is in full bloom.  This is the only workshop we organize where paint and paper along with most supplies needed is provided on site.  Just bring your brushes, any specialty colors you like to use, and we supply the rest.
